Exploring Malibu
Malibu is often reduced to its pier and iconic beaches. That was my first impression too – until I discovered that the true heart of Malibu lies beyond the shoreline. The village, the hills, the lifestyle and the rhythm of the place create an experience that goes far deeper than a quick beach stop.
This guide is designed to help you experience Malibu with intention. Not rushed. Not superficial. But
Malibu Village
Malibu Village is the city’s lifestyle core. A stroll through the area is essential to understand Malibu beyond its beaches. You’ll find a curated mix of fashion, wellness and food concepts – from creative boutiques that merge coffee culture with design, to globally known brands like KITH, where shopping and sweet treats blend seamlessly.
This is where Malibu feels local, relaxed and effortlessly elevated.
Malibu Pier
The Malibu Pier is more than a photo spot, it’s an experience. In my view, it’s one of the most beautiful piers in California, offering multiple ways to spend time rather than just pass through. Restaurants at the entrance, small souvenir shops along the pier and the Malibu Café at the end, right above the ocean. I recommend starting your day here with brunch and then transitioning into a beach walk or relaxed beach day.
Important tip: Always check the menu in advance and book a table early. This helps avoid long waiting times and keeps the experience stress-free.
Santa Monica Mountains
For panoramic coastal views, the Santa Monica Mountains are unmatched. Hiking through the hills offers a completely different perspective on Malibu – quieter, more expansive and deeply grounding.
For wine lovers, this area also connects Malibu to nearby vineyard experiences, making it ideal for combining nature, movement and indulgence.
Food Spots
The Crab Cooker: A classic, casual seafood institution with local character
Malibu Farm : Fresh, seasonal cuisine with ocean views (reservation highly recommended)
Nobu Malibu: World-renowned dining with unmatched location and atmosphere
KITH Treats: Fashion meets dessert culture in Malibu Village
SunLife Organics: Smoothies, bowls and wellness-focused fuel for beach and hike days
